How to Eyebrows!
Even if you never touch another cosmetic again, buy a good pair of tweezers and develop the skill to use them. Because no makeup trick on the planet will make you look better than a pair of beautiful brows!!
So How exactly do we achieve these brows you say?
well follow these simple tricks and you’re on your way to much more naturally shaped brows, designed perfectly for YOU!
Define your parameters.
1. Look in the mirror, hold a pencil vertically against the highest bone on the side of the nose, and note where it meets the brow. (if you need to, draw a line as a guide.) do this on both sides of the nose. Pluck only in between.
2. To determine the end of your eyebrow, extend a pencil (or tweezer) diagonally from your nostril, over the outer edge of your eye toward the brow. Where it lands is where your brow should end.
3. Whatever you do, don’t pluck the top of the brow. if you do, it will become fuzzy and then you won’t be able to create or contour an arch. Although, if your brows are messy on top, have a professional wax them. But make sure to talk to her first about the shape that you want.
note: If you have never plucked your brows before, my advice would be to see a professional the first time because it’s possible that once hair is tweezed, it may never grow back. it’s rare, but in case it happens to you, you’ll want to get it right the first time!
Plucking your own
some women prefer to moisturize before they pluck; they say it hurts less that way. honestly, I prefer to pluck when my skin is dry because i can be more precise with tweezer. But if that is too painful for you then try putting a dab of Anbesol on the area to numb it, or hold a cold washcloth to the brow for a few seconds before you start.
note: A tweezer with a slanted or pointed tip will grip the best.
1. Always pluck below the brow line, so the hair won’t grow back in a scraggly-looking line, and follow the natural arch of your brow.
2. Use the top of the brow as a guide on how to shape the bottom. Pluck the hairs out toward the ears, in the direction in which they grow. Remove stray hairs, but don’t pluck too much at once.
3. Pluck a few hairs and then stop. Look in the mirror, step back, and see how you’re doing. You can always take out more later, but once you’ve over plucked, you’ll have to live with that thin, artificial line until the hair grows back….if it does.

I definitely agree. I don’t wear makeup much, but I always try to keep my eyebrows shaped and filled. It makes a world of difference to any face.
One thing I disagree with is using the tweezer to first shape your eyebrows. You can easily shape your own eyebrows without using the tweezer a whole lot, and without going for threading. Here is a great (foolproof - personal experience there…) way to shape and take care of your eyebrows, even if you have never touched them before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuGejNahDa0
The business card trick worked wonders for me, and I thought I had a pair of eyebrows that could NEVER be shaped into submission.

Ahhh Maresah…. I don’t bite my nails, instead, I pick at my eyebrow hairs and my left eyebrow is considerably sparser than my right. 1) Do you have any tips to correct this temporarily? 2) Is there any way to encourage eyebrow growth?

hey lacey! ive definitely heard and seen this sort of habit before, but fortunately for you it’s your eyebrow and not the crown of your head!! you have a plethora of options to try…..such as sweeping some mascara over your brows it adds a touch of color and helps hold them in place so they are not as easily touched without you getting a little messy: )
also, you could fill in with a pencil and a little powder over top to soften it if necessary.
as to eyebrow growth: be very careful because like i said in the article sometimes once an eyebrow hair has been pulled it does not grow back! the only thing that i know that really helps any kind of hair growth is PROTEIN. you can get it from beans, eggs, meat, vitamins, etc.
good luck! i hope we can help stop this habit soon before it causes any permanent damage!!: )

@ Lacey-
That’s so funny, I do the same exact thing…whenever I’m concentrating, I pull and stretch my brows…weird! Fortunately I haven’t noticed any significant hair loss.

Oh, my goodness, I pull at my eyebrows, too, especially when I am thinking or nervous/tense! O.k., whew- I thought that I was the only “strange” person that did that.
Thanks for the tips!
Normally, I wouldn’t mind them-even though they ARE hard to groom and stay in place, but since I have long eyelashes, sometimes (okay, this sounds really weird, but its true!) my lashes pull down stray eyebrow hairs and make them stick out like crazy. What can I do?
My question for you, Maresah, is that since I have REALLY long eyebrow hairs, how can I trim them without making them look like I took a pair of garden shears and just hacked away?
