Design your Dream Dress- Finalists

dsc_0282-1-edit-edit-2-edit.jpg

I cannot tell you how difficult it was to decide which designs were going to be included in the top 3. So difficult, in fact, we decided to add 2 slots  bringing our top 5 finalists to your attention.

We had so many talented young women send in drawings- many thanks to all of you who labored over your design, who sent beautiful little notes and went through all the effort to be a part of this. It was a privilege to see your work.

         Voting:

  •  Each reader can vote 1 time.
  • To enter your vote, leave a comment under the dress entry you have chosen, including the the name of the dress.

For example:

“I vote for The Ava.      It’s cool because…blah blah etc.”

Things to Consider:

  •  Would you wear this dress on a normal day running errands etc?
  • Would you buy this dress for $45-$55? Would you buy this dress for $55-$85?
  • If you were heading out and your jeans and this dress were side-by-side what would you choose?
  • Would this dress be flattering on your body shape?
  • Would you choose a different color?

I couldn’t pick between Jackie & Ava. They’re both amazing in different ways. Jackie would be strictly office/church/business whereas Ava would be more versatile. But Jackie is more unique and really stands out as exceptional. Amazing job, ladies!

  2. clarice Says:

Hello I would pick the Jackie because it is a unique style I do not see everywhere, it feels very French to me. But it is classic at the same time. Something I will be able to wear years to come and I can put on own twist on it. I love it, I will say Ava is a strong second. Clarice

  3. Julie Says:

They’re all great, but I just love the Jackie dress. It’s cool, stylish and really unique. It’s not like what everyone else is wearing. It stands out - in a wonderful way!

  4. Sarah Harrelson Says:

I agree I love both the Jackie & Ava. Would wear either and love the color choices for them both.

  5. Shannon Says:

They were all so nicely done… my choice is “The June Wrap.” The wrap style is more forgiving on my figure, and I would be more comfortable with the cap sleeves rather than a sleeveless dress. Also, this style seems more comfortable and more appropriate for everyday wear, while the other styles are ones I would reserve for church or special occasions.

    Nice job, everyone.

  6. Mrs. Pear Says:

I love the june wrap the most. It would be an excellent everyday dress that would be comfortable and stylish. I also prefer a sleeve to sleeveless. And the wrap looks much more forgiving for any body type.

I would definitely wear this a lot.

I would definitely pay in the $45-55 range for this dress and would hope it would come in sizes up to xxl. Actually, if it was in that price range I would probably order a second one if the first one fit well.

The other dresses I found to be more special occasion dresses, and right now, in this economy, that is a luxury most women are doing with out, just making do with what we have. But a new every day dress is something many of us need and would make sense as it is practical and not an extravagance that needs to be put on hold.

  7. Julie B Says:

Such a hard choice! I can’t imagine having to narrow it down to 5… =)

My favorite would have to be the June Wrap, I love the simple classic lines!

  8. Stacy Says:

I vote for the June wrap because it looks so comfy and flattering and everyday casual. I would definitely pick that dress over my favorite blue jeans. I don’t think I would like the royal blue and black polka dots combo though. I’d love to see it done in a big funky flowery print with complementing solid colored accents (collar, cuffs, and bow).

  9. Alexandra Says:

Loved the June wrap, althought the Periwinkle was luscious! And the Ava was very Audrey-Hepburnish. Anyway. The June Wrap, as Shannon said, was the only one that I would consider going out to the store, etc., in, versus the more formal other ones. I would wear this any day!

  10. Sarah Says:

I vote for the Jackie. It could qualify as classic/vintage, professional, or even grunge if the buttons were contrasting. Very unique.

  11. Rachel Says:

I chose the June Wrap. It looks very flattering and I could see myself wearing it anywhere. I wouldn’t want to spend more than $45 on it.

  12. Ashley Says:

I vote for sea glass. They are all gorgeous, but I love the whimsical sailor look and that green color is just beautiful. I can just imagine myself skipping through spring blossoms while wearing it.

  13. Teoma Says:

The Ava!! Very feminine and flattering! Dresses over jeans any day!!

  14. Danielle Says:

While all of the dresses are extraordinary, I vote for the ‘Ava’. This type of dress is something that I could wear to many events (church, outing, around the house, date with my husband). Even in the cooler weather, one could throw a shawl over her shoulders and there she goes. The ‘Ava’ looks like it would be more versatile with different body types (hour-glass, pear-shaped, short, tall).
All of the dresses are fabulous - great job ladies.

  15. Tiffany G. Says:

I vote for the Jakie. Its unique, modest, versatile. It could be worn alone- with a cardigan or even denim jacket. It could also be paired with flats, boots, or heels. Good dresses that can stand alone are hard to come by. I would definitely buy it (provided that it was a nice length).

  16. Chelsi Says:

    Jackie, hands down.

June wrap is cute, but those things are a pain to keep together at the top (think bending over) and at the bottom (think wind).

  17. Abbie Says:

I definitely love the Periwinkle. Looks so practical and breezy and modest, all at the same time! I wouldn’t want to spend more than $45 for it, although it is simply a gorgeous design.

  18. Anna Says:

I like them all, but my favorite would be the Sea Glass. It is so classic and girly! This dress would be perfect for many different occasions. And I love the color!

  19. Laura Poy. Says:

While they’re all beautiful, I find the Jackie to have a uniqueness to itself. It seems to have a touch of vintage with a flair of modern. I like how “different” it is. I also like that it could be worn as a casual item or a dressy item.

  20. Kelly Says:

I vote for the Jackie…it seems so versatile and easy to wear, like you could throw it on with sandals and wear it to run errands on a Saturday, or you could pair it with heels and some chic jewelry and wear it to a professional engagement. I love it in the red, and the button-front is very unique.

I must say the June wrap was a VERY close second!

  21. Lauren Says:

I vote for the periwinkle dress. It looks lovely, and I like the idea of brown and blue together.

  22. Grace Says:

I would choose the Ava. I love the clean flowing lines of the dress and I love dresses that are all one color. Also I love how classic it is with the minimalist detailing around the neck. It would be simply stunning.
Ava is a dress you could wear for anything, depending upon the fabric used to make it.
Hopefully by the time it comes out I wil be able to afford it, i.e. hopefully I’ll have a job by then ; )
Depends, If I going to play ultimate frisbie, jeans. If I’m heading out to spend an evening at a friends house, dress.
I’m blessed with a hour glass figure, so almost anything in the right color looks good on me. The green is in my color palette so the dress should look great on me.
I’d love to try the dress in allot of different colors. It’s a elegant and simple enough design that it could be the staple of a dress lovers wardrobe. I think it would look great in black, chocolate, maroon, eggshell, salmon, periwinkle, orange, lemon yellow, kingfisher blue, teal, etc, etc, etc. Basically I think this dress would look great in any solid color ; ) This would also be a great dress to do in a simple pattern like pocka-dots.

  23. Beth Says:

I will have to say the June wrap. The others would not be as flattering. Although the Ava is cute I feel that the front might dip down a little bit too much to be considered modest. I think that I would pay between $40 to $50 for it.

  24. Jessica Says:

I love the Ava but I also love the colors of the sea glass. They are both so cute and I would definitely choose either of them over a pair of jeans any day! The Ava has such a nice cut I feel like it would be very flattering on many different body types!

  25. Pam Says:

I vote for the June Dress because of it’s simplicity, yet elegance. A style that
is classic and would look for any event.

  26. Rebekah Says:

I’m voting for the Jackie. I love the unique design and I think the style is casual enough for everyday activities and classy enough for business and church. I would pay up to $45 dollars for this dress.

  27. Natasha Says:

Sea Glass is beautiful. I love the little details. I would spend $30-$45 on it. Well done!

  28. Kate Says:

I like the Ava and the Jackie best. I might change the color of the Ava, but I love the colors for the Jackie!!

The June Wrap is very nice also but I agree with Chelsi, I think that the wind and bending over would be problems unless you had hidden buttons or something.

  29. Anna Says:

I vote for the AVA. It’s simply beautiful, has a great cut that looks great on a lot of different body types, and the fabric and color Emma suggests are amazing too! This would definitely be a favorite in my closet.

  30. Erin Says:

I love the June and the Jackie. I must say however I am extremely disappointed that not one finalist has sleeves. I could not buy any of these dresses as I only wear garments with at least a 1/4 sleeve. Because of the sleeve length these are not special from what you can buy at the store. There are plenty of sleeveless dresses with longer skirts for worldly people. I think you should have at least a few dresses with more well-rounded modesty.

  31. Rachel Says:

I would have to pick “The AVA” It is a very light and flowing type of dress! Great for a summer day! I really do like it a lot!
Great job to all who have designed the dresses though! They all look great!

  32. Hannah Glenn Says:

Beautiful designs! I hope we get to see all the designs at the end of the contest! =]

  33. Diana Says:

The Sea Glass is my very favorite! It is cute and has great detail on the bodice and the chosen color would be an excellent choice for it.

The Jackie is also very amazing. This one would probably look best on me because I have a moderately straight figure. It would be easy to dress up or down and I would definitely feel comfortable to wearing it to work, a girls night out, or even the grocery store.

Being a college student I would not pay more than $55 for either dress.

I also thing the Ava is cute but know that it would look terrible on me because of its curvy-ness.

  34. Julia Smith Says:

I would choose the Ava dress because of the way it fits. It would be very flattering on quite a few figures. The color is beautiful! I could wear the dress to church or during the week. I would buy the dress for $40-$50. It has beautiful details around the neckline as well.

  35. Ashley B Says:

I like the Ava, It is beautiful and elegant.
