Summer Makeup look #3: Red lips
So we talked about wearing red lips for an everyday, running errands look (more of a lip stain). What about formal events?
I sat down with MAC beautician, Alicia, and asked the same question.
“You can line the eye, but keep it softer (i.e. no smokey eye) to balance out the red lip.”
Here’s how we did it:
1. Apply moisturizer and dab off excess with a tissue
2. Apply concealer and light foundation, special care under the eyes, blending outwards.
3. Groom brows
3. Add warmth to the skin by brushing on a light bronzer to the hollow of the cheeks, temples, and chin line. Blend well.
4. Base in eyes with nude shadow and line upper lid with liquid liner. (Line both top and bottom if you prefer)
5. Apply black mascara to top and bottom lashes.
6. Line lips with a dark flesh lip pencil.
7. With a lip brush, the lips are filled over with a basic red creme lip color, blotted and reapplied.

Can you suggest a lip pencil for this look and the smoky eye look? I especially have difficulty finding a “nude” color that would blend in with my lip color as a base for lipstick rather than stand out.

Clinique makes some great lips liners- for a drugstore variety, try Covergirl or Lo’real. Just pick out one that is something like “nudo” or “Barely there” that type of thing.
