Summer makeup: Sheer red

redlips.jpg

I know you’ve been itching to try it. The timeless beauty  of the classic red lip continues to inspire me.

I’m going to wear it very soon.

Try this makeup trend on yourself–>

How to:

1. Prep your skin with light moisturizer and your normal foundation/concealer.

2. Keep your eyes softer to balance out the brighter lip, apply a soft champagne shadow and mascara

3. Apply a velvety matte lip shade, blot with tissue, and then top with clear balm or gloss. It leaves the lips rosy red without over-doing it.

4. Finish with soft pink powder blush dusted on the cheeks

What shade of red works for me?

Most women across the board can wear basic red creme lip color. The safest route is to test several reds at your local makeup counter and find the one that suits you best.

Revlon Cherries in the Snow, $8. bright, pinky red that is friendly on the pocket-book.
Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in RD 165, $23. It’s a universal red that truly looks amazing with every skin tone. Yes, yours.

Elizabeth Arden’s Version $19.50

Yay! I love classic red lips. I’m thinking I might have to do this makeup look for my sister’s wedding rehearsal this weekend. It’s a pretty formal rehearsal and I’ll be wearing a black dress, so it’s the perfect opportunity!

My favorite red by Clinique and I got it for free….can’t beat that, lol!

    Thanks for the tips. :)

Wow this looks daring! :) I’m going to two summer weddings and I’d love to try this… would it be ok to wear for a wedding?

  3. Christa Says:

Yea, I was consulting with a couple different makeup artists and they suggested keeping the red lips for more of a formal look.

But the sheer red works great for day.

Even red-haired skin tones? I have never even contemplated red lips for me.

I am atttending a wedding this summer too. May I request a series for wedding goers? ;)

Alright, I rocked the red lipstick at the rehearsal. :)
Ladies, GO FOR IT. Everyone loved it….my husband and my sister complimented me on it all night long!

I am going to a 50’s style birthday party this weekend, so I am going to use the opportunity to try the red lipstick. Should be fun!

Thanks for the wedding style post. Sooo, if black is a no-no before six, and white is a no-no always, can I wear a white dress that is mostly covered in a black floral design? Or is that a double no-no? :)

  9. Christa Says:

Black/White florals is quite acceptable. Black is increasingly popular at weddings (primarily because women are having more difficulty finding flattering formal attire) but the majority still consider white at weddings to be passe.
