I was just talking to my mom a few minutes ago about this, I am SO excited. My design is going pretty well, I should have it done in a few weeks. Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to do this!!

Hey, quick observation. Did you know that the sidebar thingy is messed up? I like to look at the ET blog as well… but to find the little icon I have to scroll all the way down. It’s been like this for about a week or so. Is this just my computer?

oops… you’re right. fixed that.

I’ll get the programmer to look at it…tech difficulties here.

I already sent mine in!
REALLY excited!

I’m SO thrilled to have this chance to design something that might actually come to fruition! I haven’t completely narrowed down what I want to focus on yet… but I definitely have ideas. Thank you so much for putting this contest on! It’s so exciting!

My sister and I are both working on designs. I think we’ve both narrowed it down to one decade of inspiration
May 12th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Yea, what to do with so many ideas??
May 18th, 2009 at 11:56 am
I already have many dress designs but did not think that I would want to use one of them, so now I’m sketching discarding, brainstorming, sketching, changing my mind again. Crazy right? Thank you so much though for this, it is fun, it is actually making me do something with my designs instead of just putting them in a portfolio/binder—which is stuffed full to bursting.

I have a question. How do you get up a dress maker’s pattern??? It only took me about an hour to come up with five workable designs, one of which I’ve chosen, but I did notice that you said that dressmakers’ patterns would be prefered. I would love to do that, but don’t know how. Could you help?
Thanks,
Kay

BTW,
Do you know of places to find inspiration for the vintage theme? Clothing wise, of course.
Thanks,
Kay

Hi Kay,
A dressmakers pattern is for those gals who know how to sew, and do pattern-making.
If you don’t know how to do it, no worries, it would take some time to learn. =)
Inspiration comes from many sources, a few ideas would be: vintage pattern books/catalogues, old movies, posters, photographs, Grace Kelly, Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn…even Lucille Ball had an amazing wardrobe.
Hope that helps you delve into the ideas

I finished my sketch this morning… It’s not very creative, but I love it! I’m thinking about figuring out how to make it myself.
June 2nd, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Yikes! I need to get to work on that…

Thanks, Christa,

I think I have pretty much got my sketch down. I would so LOVE to be a fashion designer at some point in my life. I’ve never sewn a piece of clothing before, so I’m going to start slowly. As soon as I get the things I need, I’m taking a pair of sparkly flare- leg jeans and making them straight leg, and making a skirt I just designed a few days ago, if I can.
Thanks so much for your fashion tips. I’m very petite (16 yrs old and only 5′1) so your tips at keeping from looking short are very helpful. That’s also one of the reasons I’m adjusting my jeans.
You have no idea how long I have wanted to be able to buy modest but stylish clothes. Thank you so much for offering them!
Thanks,
Kay
P.S. I absolutely love the Classic Houndstooth Coat. I’m saving up some money to get it before you run out of smalls.

I know I just posted a long comment, but the BOGO accessory thing, was that just for 24 hours, too? I didn’t say and I wasn’t sure. I didn’t find your blog until Saturday or Sunday, so I didn’t know about it.
Thanks,
Kay

Oh! Thanks for re-posting the reminder, I need to get out my fashion sketch book, put on an Audrey movie and get to work!!
June 5th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
I am so hoping to enter this contest! I can’t sketch though, so I’m going to make my dress first and get my brother or a friend to sketch it for me! Can’t wait to see the winning dress!

Hey Christa!
I love your stuff–I’m just wondering if once something goes on your sale, then is it gone?? Like a few things on there right now I totally love but they are not in my size. Hope you can keep adding stuff to the collection!
June 15th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
I was looking around here some more and I guess it looks like things will be gone after sale prices. Bummer!!!! : ) I will try to keep looking though and maybe I can get to the sale stuff before it is gone!
Thanks!!

do we get to name our dresses too?
June 17th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
If you would like to include a name suggestion- go right ahead!
June 18th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
I was wondering the same thing, Aidel. So is that right Christa???

If the item is sold out, then it is no longer available for purchase. But often the item doesn’t sell out completely, and can still be purchased.

Question for you, Christa. You mentioned that you don’t want any patterned fabric for our dress design, but I was wondering if you had any preference on whether or not the dress is completely one color . . . as in could the dress have more than one color, such as a blue dress with a white sash, etc., etc.?
I’m really excited about this opportunity to use creative energy!!
Things that inspire me– Audrey Hepburn, the 1940s, [vintage, vintage, vintage!!], Alice in Wonderland . . . Blessings to you, Christa.

Color differences are totally fine.
Sashes etc in contrasting colors are great.
