Summer Style Tips- by Jonathon Bell

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

jbell.jpg

Jonathon Bell, friend and fellow entrepreneur, is a man of impeccable taste. When he gives a suggestion- a girl with any style sense definitely listens. But not only is Bell style savvy, he’s modesty savvy.

This is a rare find girls, it is with pleasure that I present two posts by this style giant- admire and enjoy.

Ladies,

Its summer! This is the season of fruition, fulfillment, happiness, and beauty. As you embark on all the wonders and majesty that summer adventure holds in store for you, allow me to offer a little advice on what to adorn yourself with along the way. When contemplating fashion, one must always take two very important factors into account.

1)    Style is more than fashion; Style is you, your personality, your image, and your beliefs. According to John Fairchild, “Style is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma.” I like to put it like this: “The style that you create is the lenses through which the world perceives you.” What you think about you is what the world will see in you.
2)    Fashion must and always will follow style. A simple example that everyone can relate to is a mannequin. When you see a dress on a mannequin in a store window, you try it on before you purchase it. Why? Well, because you want to see how it will fit you, and most importantly, how it will LOOK on you. And we all know that clothes in themselves possess no value. The value is in the wearer of those clothes–you. Whether you’re wearing a $1500 pair of shoes from Dolce and Gabbana  or a $15 pair from Payless, there is no price that can be put on you and the “way” you wear them. Fashion fades, Style is eternal.

C-T.com- Next Runway show!

  swiningcatwalk.jpg

We have partnered with 6 different Pure Fashion shows over the past few months spread all across the States. But it’s with even greater pleasure that I announce our next Runway show, right here in Portland.

Here’s an excerpt from the press release:

June 7th, Christa Taylor, of Christa-Taylor.com, joins Larry Peacock of Stumptown Dance to launch First Ever “Swingin’ Catwalk” at the Scottish Rite.

” Vintage Fashion has been popular on Portland streets for decades, and who knows it better than the Swing dance crowd? In 2 weeks, 8 of Portland’s dancers will interrupt the dance night, walking the Red carpet in vintage inspired Fashion designed here in Portland. Once the dancer hits the end of the runway, she’ll join her dance partner to show off their footwork.
“It brings two of Portland’s best flavors together” says Taylor, “People are getting so excited, we’re considering making this a monthly event” she concludes.
30% of any sales from the Christa-Taylor collection go to support orphans and widows in Cambodia.   ”

Fashion Friday: Periwinkle Cardi

ffperiwinkle.jpg

Light weight knits are perfect for those balmy summer nights, throw it over your swimsuit or a tshirt and capris.

My Style: Transitioning a knit into summer  is always fun because you can style it in unexpected ways. For those of us who don’t live in the extremely hot areas, (aka Texas) knits can be carried through fairly easily. I would pair it with some cute safari style shorts for the cool summer nights, with a solid leather belt and metallic sandals.

Was $35-

now it’s 30% off. one day only.

$25 .

This CT Exclusive is pretty much stellar all year ’round, but particularly today.

Hot Hair Trends: Summer Style #4

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

sstyle4.jpg

This is one of my “tried and trues”. Dressed up or down it’s ready in minutes and you gives a feminine yet relaxed vibe. I would wear it to the beach or the opera.

Get the look: Follow Duff’s lead by adding a basic braid on both sides of your head (starting just behind your temples) before twisting hair into a low, loose chignon.

Optional: To dress it up, add some bling. Clip in a stunning brooch by hooking a bobby-pin through the pin closer and securing snuggly into the chignon.

Hot Hair trends: Summer style #1

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Ready in a snap and works well for dressy or casual. The key to this look is blow-drying your hair.

Get the look: Apply a texturizing product and roughly blow dry your hair to add texture to it. Tease the crown of your head then secure hair into a mid-height ponytail. Tease hair in the ponytail for added texture. Pull out face-framing sections of hair and use a flatiron to straighten them, creating a slight bend at the ends.

Time saver: Let your hair partially air-dry, it will save time with the blow-dryer.

Fashion Friday: Nautical Blazer

Friday, May 8th, 2009

ffnauticalblazer.jpg

Nautical Blazer

Originally I wanted to name this the Naughty Nautical- but that got nixed, guess it was too flirtatious. Either way, this blazer is bound to make you feel pretty darn cute.

My Style: Every girl should have a classic blazer available to mix and match with her wardrobe. I love wearing this with something unexpected, like a bright yellow sundress, red converse sneakers and a striped beach tote. Add some white shades, my tanning lotion and I’m ready for a trip to the (not so white) sands (correction: more like rocks) of the Oregon Coast.

Was $64-

Yours for $31.99

Yea, try to find that deal any other time of the year. ;-)
