Spring Shimmer Eyes

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

spring-makeup.jpg

Frosty pale shadow or liner is a fresh, ehteral way to look seriously feminine without resorting to an hour-long makeup session. Paired with some of Springs airy fabrics, it’s spot on chic.

-Smudge pale apple blossom pinks or champagnes all around the eye. With the color so soft it’s hard to over do it. (mixing white/bone with a silver is another variation)

-Make sure you conceal under your eye beforehand so you avoid the “tired” look.

Straight haired girls: This ethereal makeup style looks fantastic with straight hair. Wear it well!

Teased curls

 teasedcurls.jpg

A few celebrities launched this trend, and it’s surprisingly easy, particularly if you have wavy or curly hair. Just don’t over do it- walking around looking like you stuck your hand in an electric socket is not the goal ;)

How to do it:

1. Work a volumizing cream into your damp hair to add extra oomph before blow drying.

2. Wrap smal sections of hair around a medium barrel curling iron. Pin up the curls until they are cooled, then fluff them with your fingers.

3. Give waves body and bounce by teasing them with a large brush. To finish, mist locks with hairspray and pat down a bit.

Give your Face Winter Warmth

warmth101.jpg

Looking a bit pasty? Me too.

Here’s a few tips on giving your skin a rev-up in Februrary:

Give your face winter warmth

1. Prep. Start with clean, moisturized skin. Using a synthetic foundation brush, sweep foundation on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin—just where you need to even out your complexion. Blend it over the skin and finish with downward strokes (to flatten the tiny hairs on your cheeks).

2. Conceal. Pat a creamy, yellow-toned concealer under the eyes, being sure to get the inner corners near your nose. Disguise blemishes with a thicker, cakey concealer that matches your skin exactly. And eradicate an oily T-zone with a touch of loose, translucent powder on a large, fluffy brush—just dust it over the center of the forehead, down the nose, and on the chin.

3. Bronze. Swirl a medium-size, fluffy brush in a matte powder bronzer that’s slightly deeper than your skin tone. Tap most of the bronzer off the brush, then lightly skim it across the forehead and cheeks, then down the bridge of the nose.
4. Add blush. Give skin a believably sun-kissed look by applying a rose-tone powder blush to the apples of the cheeks and blending up the cheekbones. Be sure the blush is rosy, or at the very least pink; peach-tone blushes look orange over bronzer.
5. Highlight. With your index finger, sparingly apply an iridescent champagne shade of liquid or cream highlighter to the tops of the cheekbones and the inner corner of each eye.

Story behind the Veils

Friday, February 13th, 2009

veils.jpg

There is an amazing woman behind the veils you’ve seen in several of our photo shoots. Not only is she mentor to most of the young ladies we know, she also is a full-time wife and mother of triplets and even operates her own home business on the side. What does she produce with her business? The most beautiful, delicate vintage veils you have ever seen. When we expressed interest in shooting with some her veils, Dorene Vandermeer of Unveiled Bridal Designs graciously proffered help with whatever we needed. And that’s how we found the gorgeous veil on the homepage. To find out more about Dorene and her incredible designs, check out Unveiled Bridal Designs.

Valentines Challenge Debut

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Creating 3 gorgeous outfits from “items every woman has in her closet” was more difficult than we first anticipated. The first set is based off your simple black skirt and t-shirt. Every gal has one, you could even throw in a colored tee- . The strong point with this theme is the pearls. Classy and timeless they generate romance and elegance simultaneously.

Valentine

This second set is for all you gals who are going to be running around town on Valentines. The denim skirt could be replaced with denim trousers, if you prefer. We presented a few different jacket ideas so you could get take what's in your closet and make it work.

Valentine 2
Valentine 2 - by christa_t on Polyvore.com

This final edition is based off the classic Little Black Dress. I haven’t met a girl yet who doesn’t have some form of this wardrobe staple. Because few (if any) will be dining in truly “formal” fashion, we paired the LBD with a variety of casual cropped jackets- you choose what works from your closet. Go for contrast, sometimes the least expected piece brings it all together. It doesn’t match- it goes. We also included several necklace ideas- everything from the all-out glamorous to the sentimental locket your hubby gave you years ago-

Valentine 3
Any comments? What would you add from your closet to personalize it?

Don’t you love those “friend of a friend” connections that just seem uncannily helpful? That is the story behind our Valentine’s Day shoot. Our model’s mother had friend who owned this magnificent and gorgeous home with just the amount of “cutting edge” that made it the perfect location for a photo shoot.

When we looked into the lead, we found the hostess more than willing to let us use her amazing house! The home itself was a piece of art. Every room had it’s own unique and modern flair providing us with huge amounts of flexibility, not to mention endless options for any variety of shots.
Thanks so much, Vanessa, for the use of your lovely home! Vanessa obliged us by answering a few questions (more…)

How to Say “I Love you”

Monday, February 9th, 2009

howtosayiloveyou.jpg

Some creative ways to express your affection-
-Decorate their office/bedroom door with “10 Reasons why I love you”, use butcher paper or sticky notes

-Make his favorite cookies and take them to his car while he is at work and leave them on a plate with a sweet note on his seat, for him to find when he gets off work.

-Find old love letters and photocopy them. Write a sequel to the old one, finding new ways to express the same sentiment.

-Send an email or a text message especially if he has a difficult meeting or conflict to deal with, letting him know that you are with him.

-Have a date night (or girls night) at your home, set the atmosphere, get your creative juices together and write encouraging notes, slipping them under the plates/in the napkin etc. (adaption for the single gals: do a mystery dinner)

-Create a Valentine coupon book- with different creative experiences you can do together, think outside the box and outside the purse- what can you do for free?

-Write him a postcard and send it to his office- affirm that man!

- Brag about him to others, especially in front of him (my Dad LOVES this)

-Do some special act of service-Clean out his closet or clean and straighten his bookshelf, clean out his car etc.

-Smile at him when he walks into the room!

Don’t have a Valentine?

(guess what? I don’t either- adapt these for your Dad, Sister or a girlfriend, you’ll get a kick out of it and bless them in the process!)
