Fall Makeup- look #1 Angelic

angelicmakeup.jpg

No one likes to wear the same outfit day after day for weeks on end. It would quickly become dull and boring. In the same way keeping our makeup routine the same week after week can leave us feeling colorless, humdrum females.  I’m here to fix that with a few stimulating makeup looks making their debut this fall.

Try them, experiment a bit. Don’t go overboard. The beauty of your character should outshine the beauty of your face.  (coming soon, Must Know Makeup Basics)

Luminous Skin

Shimmering peach, pink and ivory tones replace conventional bronzer to give your skin an ethereal, lit-from-within glow.

 How to do it:

- Brush or Dab on a light foundation, concealing any blemishes

-Blend a pea-size dab of cream highlighter (a pale cream eyeshadow would suffice) on cheekbones, brow bones and bridge of nose.

-Swirl and brush a generous amount of luminescent baby-pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. This is a soft ballerina look, so avoid burgundy or brown tinted blushes.

-Finish off with a light ivory or pink shadow on your lids and a dab of nude lip gloss.

Voila!

I also enhance this look by smoothing a bit of translucent, shimmering pink shadow at the brow of my lip- gives an extra “dewy” touch.

  2. Annie Says:

Hey Christa, what would you say is the purpose of makeup?

  3. Christa Taylor Says:

Hi Annie! I’ve been thinking a lot about that very issue lately and will be writing about it on my blog: http://www.empoweredtraditionalist.com once I have something written down.

    What are your thoughts?

  4. Annie Says:

Well, I’m not really sure quite what to think yet! :) That’s why I was wondering what you thought about it. I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately. I’ve never worn makeup, and pretty much all of my friends do. A lot of them wear it so that people don’t think they’re younger than they are, or to make them prettier, or be in style. I’m wondering, are those good reasons to wear it? What are good reasons to wear it? If I wore it, I wouldn’t want to wear it for the wrong reason, yet…what is the right reason for wearing it, that would please the Lord? Hmm…just some thoughts that have been running around in my head. Good, I look forward to reading your post!

  5. Jessica Says:

As far as why I wear makeup…. I feel better about myself when I do put on a little mascara or a dab of lipstick. When I feel better about myself, I can be a better witness for Christ and that’s really important to me :)

  6. Annie Says:

Right, Jessica…that sort of makes sense, but then again…WHY do you feel better about yourself when you wear makeup? I understand what you’re saying, but then these thoughts come into my mind, like didn’t God make us fearfully and wonderfully? Then why to we paint our faces all up, to cover up what He’s made? Hmm…As I said, I don’t really have a settled opinion on the subject. :) What would be your answer?

  7. Leslie Says:

call me vain, I don’t know
but I used to have bad acne a few years ago and b/c my skin is more fair, I use foundation to cover up some scarring I still have.
I say, if you don’t need it, then don’t use it.

  8. Leslie Says:

I just had another thought: if we’re going to say “what’s the point in wearing make-up” then, I think the next step is to ask “what’s the point in wearing nice clothes” or “what’s the point in buying extra shoes to compliment our outfits”?

We have to take it back to the Bible:
1 Tim. 2:9, “likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,”

CJ Mahaney has written a very good excerpt on this topic:

Thanks Leslie, I am a huge fan of C.J. and the wisdom God has given him to address these issues.

Carolyn Mahaney will also be addressing this topic on the 17th of this month- I want to hear what she has to say before broaching the topic on http://www.empoweredtraditionalist.com

These are wonderful questions you have Annie!! I just had a “revelation” if you will… I think makeup should be used to enhance the beauty God has given each one of us. Like, for example, I have blue eyes. I wear blue eye shadow to enhance the color of them. I agree with you completely when you say makeup shouldn’t be used to cover up what God has already given us.
I also have acne and use foundation to smooth over the scars and marks. When I do this I have a higher level of confidence. I know God doesn’t want us to have a low self-esteem of ourselves and for me, this means covering up my blemishes. I hope this answers your question :)

  11. Rebecca Says:

My makeup looks great in the morning, but by mid-afternoon I look like I don’t have any one. Any ideas? maybe a brand that is truely long lasting? i’m not talking about after working out, just sitting in classes all day. I want to look nice without have to redone my makeup half-way though the day.

  12. Christa Taylor Says:

Greetings Rebecca, What are you refering to- Is your powder gone or your mascara or is it your lipstick?

  13. Ali Joy Says:

Annie, I am in the exact same situation and am looking for answers. I’m seventeen, have a pretty bad complexion, and have never worn any sort of make-up. A lot of times, if my face is broken out pretty badly, I’ll just stay home. I hate to think that I’m vain, and really want to know if make-up can be used in a godly manner. I’m really looking forward to what you write, Christa.

  14. Becca Says:

I’m wondering about makeup too…I’m seventeen and after people bugging me about not wearing any for the last couple years I’ve started wearing mascara and lip gloss. But I want to make sure I’m wearing it in a godly way and for the right reasons!

I’m also looking forward to your post about this, Christa :)

  15. Annie Says:

    I don’t know what it is about seventeen-year-olds and makeup…but I’m seventeen to! ;)

  16. Christa Taylor Says:

That is curious- I was seventeen when I first wore makeup as well. But it wasn’t till I was 18 that I owned my own mascara etc.

  17. Sydney Says:

A really good post and really good comments to go along with it! I don’t wear make-up but not for a biblical reason per se. It makes me skin break out, even the light, mineral, non clog, ect. MIss J, a dear sisters whos blog I read wrote a wonderful aritcal on the subject of modest make-up I would encourage you all to read it. Heres the link http://aponderingheart.com/blog/?p=934

I could go on for awhile but I’ll stop here. Also I’ve written a few things on this subject on my blog under beauty.

    God bless
    Sydney

lol. I’m 17 and have been wearing makeup for about four years. I started with foundation and concealer at 13 because of skin issues(acne anyone?) ant then once highschool came around I moved on to lipgloss and eyeshadow and blush and eye liner. Now that I’m in college and am coming into my own a bit more I use mascaras and lipstick. Partly I use makeup to even out my skin, but my other reasons are that 1. I look very young and makeup helps me look my age and 2. Because I believe it is an artistic expression, the same as haircuts and styles, wardrobe, and jewelwry. My mom was a really good consultant when I first started out wearing makeup. Her advice helped me to learn how to apply it in a natural way, not too “artistic”, ovedrdone or trashy way. Now that I’ve been wearing it awhile I incorporate a lot of my personal tastes and preferences into how I apply it. I try to have fun with it.

  19. Meg Says:

    Hi Christa,

I was wondering if you could send me a link of where I can find cream highlighter or what is a good brand?

    Thanks!

  20. Christa Taylor Says:

Here is reasonably priced, skin sensitive, quality highlighter: Mary Kay

You can use the cream tones for a soft highlight to cheeks, brow and nose and the soft rose for blush!
