Am I warm or cool?
Being able to determine your skin tone will help you to make informed decisions about color selections for hair, makeup and clothing. There are several simple observations you can make to help you figure out what your tone is.
You’re COOL if…
1. Silver jewelry stands out more than gold jewelry when placed on your skin
2. In direct sunlight, you see glints of blue, purple or green in your natural hair color
3. Your skin color in porcelain, rosy-beige, rosy-pink, dark olive, dark brown or ebony
4. You may burn easily in the sun
5. Your eye color is light blue, gray-blue, gray-green, blue-green, deep blue, deep green, brown or black
You will look beset in Silver, Platinum or white gold jewelry. Pearls and diamonds have cool undertones so often they compliment your skin.
You’re WARM if…
1. Gold jewelry stands out more than silver jewelry when placed on your skin
2. In direct sunlight, you see glints of red, orange, gold or yellow in your natural hair color
3. Your skin color is golden brown, warm peach, pale or yellow with freckles
4. You tan easily in the sun
5. Your eye color is blue, blue-green hazel, green, topaz, amber, cinnamon, coffee bean
You will look best gold, brass and copper jewelry.
If you are still puzzled try this technique:
Pull your hair off of your face. Wash your face and then place a white towel around your neck and shoulders. The pure white cloth will reflect skin undertones. If your face looks yellow next to the white towel you have a warm skin tone and if it looks more blue then you have a cool skin tone.

Yay! I’ve always wanted to be “cool”. Everything fits perfectly except the hair thing. I’m glad that I wasn’t mistaken.

Christa,
Have you read the book “Color Me Beautiful” by Carole Jackson? If not, you need to! It talks about how each person is one of four “seasons”: Winter and Summer people have cool skin tones; Autumn and Spring people have warm skin tones. Each season has its own palette of shades of color.
That’s why some people (like me, a Winter) look drab in, say, peach, camel, and yellow green, while others (like my aunt, a Spring) come alive in those colors. (Winter’s best colors are vivid and icy.) So, anyway, check it out! The book is a little outdated (printed in the 80s) but the palettes are timeless.

I have the book and need to re-peruse it, thanks for the reminder.
Blessings,

Haha, I can’t tell.
1. I like silver jewelry way better than gold, but they both look good on me.
2. My hair is a red-gold. (Warm.)
3. My skin is pale with freckles. (Warm.)
4. I burn way easily in the sun. (Cool.)
5. My eye color changes between blue, green, and grey.

Anna Grace, you’re warm. The skin-burning thing is less important and your eye color counts as blue-green hazel, which is listed under the warm colors.
I’m warm and my eyes are blue-gray-green too!

What if you can wear either? I can’t figure out what I am. I look ok in gold and silver, but I have problems deciding which to use. Silver and light blues really look good in my hair, which is a very, very dark brown with light tints of red in the sun. But my eyes (again dark brown) look best with gold-toned makeup.
Question, when you are wearing a sunshine yellow, do you wear gold or silver jewelry?

My guess is you look best in silver. Often women can wear both (I do frequently) but one tone simply enhances the skin more than the other.
If I was wearing a bright warm-toned yellow, I would wear gold jewelry. But it’s not as much about the color of shirt as the gold looks better with my skin tone. My mom looks excellent in silver, when she wear yellow, she wear silver jewelry.

With softer eyes and softer hair- the overall effect is cooler. You are right to shine in the white-gold/silver jewelry.

1. Silver
2. My hair is blond so I usually see gold and brownish tones in it. What do purple, green, and blue look like in hair.
3. I have very fair, Norwegian skin
4. I do not tan well at all.
5. I have blue eyes, can’t tell what shade.
Is is safe to assume I am cool? I usually look good in blues while I am washed out by whites, light pinks, and yellows.
