No more Breakouts
Tired of those blemishes crowding your face? Here are some suggestions that can be helpful to make your face clean and clear!
Use light agents on your skin, NEVER use anything heavy or greasy on your face. “This sounds like a no-brainer”, says New York dermatologist Pat Wexler. “But I have patients who put pure vitamin E oil on their skin and then wonder why they break out”. From my personal experience, when I have applied oil (i.e. coconut oil), it has caused some serious breakouts.
Check with your doctor if you have especially bad adult acne or recurring problems, your hormones may be out of whack. Your overall health definitely affects your skin.
Wash your skin twice a day- once more if you’ve just hit the gym. Replace the needed natural oils with a simple moisturizer.
Apply all over your face, the cleanser, even where you aren’t broken out. “Acne affects every oil gland on your face,” says San Francisco dermatologist Kathy Fields. “you need to treat the entire zone” It is our natural tendency to treat the infected areas only. Wrong-o!
On it’s own, “a pimple usually fades in eight days,” says Wexler, “If you pick at it, you’re looking at three to four weeks and possible scarring.”
Hide the blemish, it’s easier than you think.
- Always use a slightly cakey concealer. Liquids and creams don’t work as well.
- Yellow-based tones are best for covering- they neutralize redness. But don’t use it all over your face, it will make you look dull.
- Pick up a bit of the concealer with the side of a small, firm brush; keep the brush in a pointed shape, dab off excess product. Apply on the pimple first, working your way to the outside. Press-rather than rub- the concealer in place and finish with translucent powder.
Natural ways to cure breakouts!
-Apply honey to any affected area(s) several times a day – the honey is known to reduce redness, nourish the skin and give a natural glow to the skin.
-Rubbing your skin with lemon juice is the best and most effective way to treat pimples – lemon juice lightens red scars and blemishes, maintains the pH balance of the skin.
-Drink at least 1.5 liter mineral water every day to help detox your body from the inside out.

Acne is the worst. I am older and am just beginning to get it under control, although I still have breakouts. I wonder if there will ever be a cure. well, i know there are some, but one that works for older people. This radio program is supposed to be good about this type of help and advice. This week is about acne.

For me (and I suspect, most everyone) it’s majorly hormone-related. So far I’ve found kelp to be really helpful in regulating those - you can get kelp capsules at health food stores, etc. A little goes a long way and it’s really helped with my hormone cycle and thus with my acne. Also, I drink water - a lot of water - and cleanse and moisturize with tea tree soap and Cetaphil lotion. It’s an ongoing process

Hi Erin,
Yea, acne has been a struggle for me off and on as well. I found that drinking LOTS of water is by far the best cure. Have you ever seen a dermatologist?

I find that I need to be ultra-careful of what kind of facial products I use. Most of the skin care products are so drying, and when you dry your skin, it often causes blemishes. In fact, I’ve just started to go au naturel and use warm water with a washcloth 2/day….and my skin’s never been better!

Ya I’ve had trouble the same for my whole teen years and now into my early 20s…I would try most anything I could afford to cover up and washed my face every evening. It was always up and down, never really a cycle until just a couple years ago when they really started to just hang around my jaw line (which someone told me would happen to adults) and I still didn’t have a clear answer to why or what to do! Then one day my sister and I were at a healthfood store getting some herbs and the lady there rather boldly asked if I did anything for my acne…ok so I was really embarrassed but what she said really got me thinking…she said that our face reflects our body (of course) and that sometimes when we have break outs it is relecting how clean (or dirty) our colon is..she said that I should take asodopholus(sp?) or eat yogurt. Well I did eat my yogurt and for a while it really did seem to help..now I can really see a difference from how my face looked like a couple years ago and for just some added help have started to wear a mineral based foundation. A lot of companies have started to sell a line of makeup made out of natural minerals and earth products good for our skin that dont clog and annoy our pores like most oil or liquid makeups do. A friend told my of one but it is rather expensive and so I just got one from the store the other day and truly have seen amazing results even for a couple of days as the foundation is really light, does not clog your pores and helps reduce breakout as it is a powder and has natural minerals in it! I believe in my Creator and want to take good care of my body and use the most natural means to keeping it healthy…I thank God that He has shown me these things and hope that they in turn can be a help to others.
Blessings….Grace

Hey Christa,
As far as trying the lemon juice thing goes…do you leave it on or just rub it on your skin and then wash it off?
