On Loving Tunics

tunics.jpg

My Dad loves it when my sisters or I wear a tunic, why? Because it is both adorable and modest. It covers the derrière nicely, eliminating many of the common difficulties behind wearing pants, and it’s very feminine.

A tunic stands by itself very well, you can throw it on over denim and be ready to run out the door. It’s very easy to make a really cute outfit. If you aren’t comfortable putting different pieces together, or you don’t particularly like styling…this is the top for you.

The one difficulty they may present is their functionality over a skirt. Tunics work well over a pencil or tulip skirt, both of which have a more slim, streamlined look. I have also seen tunics paired very nicely with a straight fit, pencil dress, layered and belted.
With a few rare exceptions you don’t want to pair a tunic with an a-line skirt because they both have the same “A” shape. In an outfit we are always looking for contrast, if you have a fitted skirt, you look for a more voluminous top. If you have a full top, a more streamlined skirt/bottom creates the needed balance.

Send me pictures of your favorite tunics or even better, of you wearing your own!

Yes, tunics are really cute! I love them, except for the fact that I very rarely wear pants. So, that’s to bad. I really enjoy browsing your site!

    Hi!

I’ve had difficulty seeing why people wear these types of shirts. Thank you for pointing out that they help with modesty! I see them in a whole new light now!

I absolutely love tunics as well! Although I don’t wear them often, a good tunic on top of jeans can’t be beat. (I probably should look for more!)

Thanks for your post, and by the way, are you considering adding some new tunic pieces to your collection? :-)

You mentioned it (tunic shirt) would look fine with a pencil skirt. Since I’m really hesitant to put them both together…and I don’t really were pants…could you upload a photo or two? Demonstrating how skirts can be worn with tunic shirts? I would appreciated this greatly! Thanks, Beth

    Sure-I’d be happy to…
I’ll do a follow up post on it.

It will take a bit of time to get the pictures taken, but I’ll post them tomorrow if possible. ; )
